Before traveling to Glasgow, everyone told me it was okay, but nothing compared to Edinburg. With that being said, I was excited to understand why they thought that, and I wanted to create my understanding of Glasgow as a Scottish city. Upon arriving on October 3rd, I was amazed. The city was busy, but not as busy as other touristy towns and the architecture throughout the whole town was stunning. I was surrounded by gothic buildings and beauty. There were also so many restaurants and shops. I was instantly confused as to why people were indifferent about the city, and I was curious as to how Edinburgh could be better.
My main reason for traveling to Glasgow was to attend a 5 Seconds of Summer Concert. Sam, my roommate, and best friend, and I had been planning this for months, and we were so excited to see the concert in Scotland. After arriving at our hotel, we went out to get some food, which was amazing. We ate Italian food for the first time since being abroad, and it was authentic and some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life. From an outsider's perspective, it seemed Glasgow had a big Italian presence due to the vast amount of restaurants all with booming reviews. After eating, we explored. We walked about a few miles around the whole city. Again, the architecture was amazing, and it all looked like I was living in the mid-12th century. My favorite part of Glasgow was the river that sliced through the city. To get to our concert at the OVO Stadium, we had to walk along the river for about 20 minutes, and it was lovely. The river was serene and peaceful. It felt like a nice escape from the inner city. As expected, the concert was amazing, and I will always remember my time in Glasgow with the concert as a highlight.
The next morning, I explored a little more while it rained, as it always seems to do, and I came to think about my opinions on Glasgow. Ultimately, I love the city. It is a small semi-touristy town full of life. After also going to Edinburgh, I understand why some people prefer it over Glasgow, but people do not give Glasgow enough credit. The city is lovely, and it is worth the visit when in Scotland. Each city has its magical parts, and as someone who appreciates a more intimate city, I enjoyed Glasgow and I look forward to going back. My favorite places to visit were the Glasgow City Chambers, St George’s Tron Church, Glasgow Green, and the River Clyde.
